There are many great things going on in the Madison-Plains Local School District. The district covers an area of 270 square miles from South Solon to the west; Rt. 40 (almost) to the northwest to the London City boundary; Lilly Chapel-Big Plain to the east to Mt. Sterling on the southeast corner of the district. Serving students in several communities has always been a communication challenge for our widespread district. Our main goal is to meaningfully engage students as to their level of understanding to move to the next level of the learning standards.

|
A basic feature of our district is the implementation of all-day, everyday pre-school housed at the Mt. Sterling building and our Kindergarten Program at Mt. Sterling, Madison Rural and Midway Elementaries. The expectation is for our students to be better prepared at the first grade level and beyond due to having a more solid foundation from an early age.

Technology has been a big factor in providing learning opportunities for student engagement. Our three elementaries are all equipped with Smart Board technology in every classroom and available in large number of classrooms in our Middle School and High School. Additionally, our Middle School and High School is wireless, thus allowing classroom sets of Net Book computers to be used for the entire class to enhance learning. Additionally, several Middle, High and Elementary school teachers make use of the Student Response system, in which hand-held clickers allow every student in the class to respond to questions on a variety of topics. This provides immediate feedback to both students and teachers in a non-threatening manner.

The addition of the virtual learning courses over the past three years has provided further options for students to take classes in an on-line environment. The on-line courses have helped students in several areas, including those with credit recovery, students wishing to take classes that may not be available because of scheduling, students in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP)- an off-site college program, students taking coursework that is not taught onsite and finally our Student-Centric Learning Academy that will allow students an alternative to school suspension or expulsion. Our distance learning classes, Mandarin Chinese and American Sign Language have afforded some students to open new horizons while attending Madison-Plains High School. These interactive classes will pave the way for future on-line programs for the district.

The combined efforts of outstanding students, staff, Board of Education, and a supportive community have resulted in Madison-Plains Local Schools being recognized by the State Department of Education as an EXCELLENT rated district for the 2008-2009 school year. Our on-going goal is be certain that all students are learning, and if not, WHY?
