October 24, 2018 Follow Up
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The purpose of this post is to provide some follow-up
information to today’s events at MPJH/HS.
First and foremost, all of our students and staff are safe; that is what
is most important. Please also know that
I share the same concerns and feelings that all of our parents and guardians
have about these events. They are both
scary and frustrating, and no one wants them to stop more than I do, which is
why we are doing everything we can to investigate, figure out who is doing
this, see that strong consequences are given, and do our best to try to get
this to stop.
As you are aware, two threatening messages were found
written in restrooms today at the 7-12 building. One was found this morning in a boys’
restroom at MPHS, and the other was found in a girls’ restroom at the junior
high. We took both messages seriously
because student and staff safety is our first priority.
Because of the nature of the message found this morning, students
and staff sheltered-in-place until it was determined by law enforcement that
the building was safe. Due to the nature
of this afternoon’s message, students and staff were evacuated to the football
field. We asked students to leave
bookbags at the 7-12 building because law enforcement advises us to have
students leave those materials at the building because of the concern for what
they refer to as cross-contamination due to what could be in bookbags. The building has been searched and cleared by
law enforcement.
In the morning, all 7th through 12th-grade
students will go directly to the gym.
High school principal Ms. Teis and I are going to address them there
about the seriousness of these events.
Students will then be dismissed to their 8th-period class to
get their belongings, which is the class they evacuated from, and then go to
first period.
Again, please know we are doing everything we can to
investigate and determine who is doing this and to stop it. Please also know that if sufficient evidence
is found that points to a specific person or persons, they will be given strong
disciplinary consequences, and the school will press legal charges.
All evening activities at the 7-12 building are cancelled or
postponed for this evening.
Thank you.
Mr. Chad Eisler, Superintendent
Madison-Plains Local Schools
