The Madison-County Board of Elections today confirmed results from the May 8 election, declaring a victory for Madison-Plains’ 1.25 percent earned income tax with a final 50.77 percent of the ballots cast. The levy was passing after all votes were counted on May 8, however could have been overturned based on the 38 provisional ballots cast. The measure won by 29 votes.

Reminder! Polls are open tomorrow from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Approval of the 1.25 percent earned income tax the Board placed on the ballot is part of its budget balancing plan. Passage would keep the district solvent until 2022-23. An earned income tax will diversify the district’s tax base and does not impact:

All Madison-Plains employees have agreed to a voluntary pay freeze on their base salaries, a move to help the cash-strapped district save money as it heads to the polls next week.
