Counseling Program

What is School Counseling?
   The Madison-Plains School Counseling programs support, facilitate, and encourage classroom instruction and student achievement. Our school counseling programs are proactive and preventative in their focus. They assist students in acquiring and using life long learning skills. More specifically, our school counseling programs employ strategies to enhance academic skills, provise career awareness, foster interpersonal communication skills, provide career awareness, and impact life skills for all students. The purpose of school counseling is to contribute to the academic success of all students to help them find a purpose in learning.

Madison-Plains School Counseling Mission Statement:
   The mission of the counselors of the Madison-Plains School District is to provide high quality, comprehensive counseling services to all students. Our programs are designed to help all students develop and enhance academic, personal and career strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. In partnership with other Madison-Plains educators, parents/guardians and the community, we help facilitate students' transition through their individual developmental and learning stages. 

Madison-Plains School Counseling Program Goals
   The school counseling program will focus on the following goals this year: 
1. Promote a commitment to lifelong learning
2. To encourage and support personal and academic growth for our students and professional growth for ourselves.
3. To assist students in college and career readiness in order to become responsible and productive members of society.


National Standards
   The Madison Plains School District's School Counseling Programs are based on the National Standards for School Counseling Programs which integrates the following domains: Academic, Career, and Personal/Social Developments.


*Confidentiality and School Counseling*
   Privacy and confidentiality are essential to having an effective school counseling program. Madison Plains recognizes the importance of good communication and good working relationships between students, parents, and the school. Therefore, every effort will be made to protect student and parent privacy rights under certain limited conditions. These conditions generally included safety issues (harm to self and/or others), legal issues, and professional responsibilities (see the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors at www.schoolcounselor.org).
