Calamity Day Announced for Jan. 14, 2022
Dear MPLSD Staff, Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Our District’s number of staff absences remains elevated, as I have learned of more probable COVID cases today among the staff, and our overall cases have increased, as well.

Our staff seems to be being hit particularly hard at this time, which is leading us to be short-staffed.  Because of this staff shortage, I am going to cancel classes tomorrow, Friday, January 14, 2022.  All classes in the District will be cancelled, and school will be closed via a calamity day.  Staff should remain at home, as well.

Because this closure is due to a staff-shortage, and other district activities are not as impacted, scheduled district events, such as athletic contests, are able to continue at this time, provided the groups involved are able to do so.  Decisions on individual games will be based on the circumstances for the respective teams involved.  Decisions around those contests will be communicated by the athletic department and the respective coaches.

With the MLK holiday coming up on Monday, my hope is that the coming four days, Friday through Monday, will give our staff time to recover and be able to return to school; however, because of the way the cases have been increasing, I will be monitoring numbers over the weekend and will be considering whether we will be able to hold this coming Tuesday’s scheduled classes.  I will make a decision about them by 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

This continues to remain a challenging time.  As I said yesterday, this is not easy for any of us.  Thank you for your continued support.

I hope you have a good evening.

Go Eagles.

Chad Eisler, Superintendent
Madison-Plains Local School District
