Facebook Live proves to be a hit
Madison-Plains will air its monthly MPAC meetings on Facebook Live going forward after much success with a live broadcast of a meeting last week.

Many parents and residents commended the district for the live feed during the meeting and have since posted comments on the district’s Facebook page in the days following. The next MPAC meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Sept. 20 and will be broadcasted.

‘Thank you for posting this meeting,” Mac Cordell posted. “This is a great way to communicate with people who were unable to attend the meeting. I very much appreciate it and think the community as a whole should also.”

The video had been viewed nearly 1,500 in just two days and has reached more than 2,600 people according to Facebook data. Nearly three dozen people attended the meeting, which was held in the district meeting room at Madison-Plains Elementary.

“Thank you for live feed,” Diane Mallow Golden, posted during the meeting. “Would love this for everything … helps with people's work schedules and still wanting to be in the know.”

Dettwiller said he was pleased with the response.

“Communication from the school to our community is a challenge for a district as large as MP,” he said. “A Facebook Live feed allows us to interact with our community without requiring them to physically come to our meetings.”

The meeting was largely a question-and-answer format based on topics recently raised in the community about the district on social media, such as administrative pay and salaries for all staff, services contracted to vendors (landscaping), superintendent’s licensure, district organizational chart and tax rates.

Superintendent Tim Dettwiller addressed many of the issues. Treasurer Todd Mustain provided a significant amount of financial data and Director of Operations Joe Penney responded to topics particular to his department.

Board of Education Vice President Bob Butz and member Mike Datz also attended. Butz, who has served since 2012, shared a fair amount of information and rationale about past Board decisions.

MPAC meetings are typically scheduled for 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month. Changes to the schedule are posted the district’s website, sent via email to registered email addresses and shared on Facebook. Agendas are determined by community driven interest, current district events and on-going initiatives.
