School breakfast and lunch

Dear MPLSD Parents and Guardians,

Good evening!  The purpose of this communication is to share some important news.

In light of the authority of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service office (FNS) is granting an extension of summer meal programs for students.

As such, beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9th, 2020, all Madison-Plains Local School District students will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge, regardless of household income.  The office of Food and Nutrition Service is planning to have this program be in effect until December 31, 2020, or until federal program funds are depleted.  Please note this only applies to the regular school breakfast and lunch meals.  The program does not extend to additional ala carte offerings that may be available for purchase.

Again, the extension of this program is scheduled to go through December 31, 2020, or until federal program funds are depleted. Therefore, regular school breakfast and lunch prices will resume once federal program funds are depleted, or when students return to school in January 2021, whichever occurs first.

Thank you!

Have a wonderful evening!

Go Eagles!

Kindergarten Assessments

Dear MPLSD Parents and Guardians,

Greetings!  The purpose of this message is to share information with the parents and guardians of our kindergartners about the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment.

For those parents and guardians who do have a kindergartner, we wanted to let you know that the secretaries at the elementary school are in the process of calling the parents and guardians of all registered kindergarten students to set up appointments for the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment, also known as the KRA.  The assessment will be given on Wednesday, August 19th, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  The assessment will take approximately 30 minutes.  If you have not received a call, please call the Elementary & Intermediate School office at (740) 490 - 0613 to speak with someone about scheduling an appointment for your child to take the assessment.  After the assessment is given, we will be offering a brief tour of the building by a staff member.  We ask that you please limit the tour to the kindergartner and one parent or guardian, and please remember that everyone must wear a mask.

Thank you!

Have a good evening!

Go Eagles!

Reminder and information

Dear MPLSD Parents and Guardians,

Greetings!  The purpose of this communication is to provide a friendly reminder and some information!

First, as a quick, friendly reminder, today is the last day to select the educational options you would like for your child(ren).  Please visit the Madison-Plains Local School District webpage to select the option you would like to choose prior to 11:59 p.m. tonight.  If you need to change the option you previously chose for your child, you may do so in the confirmation e-mail that was sent to you.

Also, we do ask that a parent or guardian please make selections for each child.  This is important for courses, and it is especially important for transportation so that we can plan bus routes.  If there are children for whom no selection is made, the default category will be Option 1, attending classes on campus and needing bus transportation utilizing the home address we have on file.  If we can have each child fully accounted for through the options selection process, it will help us to more effectively schedule courses and transportation.  We kindly ask for your assistance with this.  Thank you!

Also, if there are parents who have children who are eligible for kindergarten and would like to have them attend kindergarten this year, please contact the school district to have them registered.  The contact person for kindergarten registration, as well as all other enrollment for new students, is Mrs. Julane Walker, and she can be reached by phone at 740-490-0679, or you may e-mail her at [email protected]  If possible, please contact her by Friday of this week for kindergarten and other new student registrations.

Thank you!

Have a great day!

Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Option 2 Update

Dear MPLSD Parents and Guardians,

Greetings!  The purpose of this communication is to let you know about an important update regarding the curriculum and instructional offering we have available for those students, and their families, who choose Option 2, fully remote learning at home.

Within the last week, we have learned that an on-line curriculum and instructional option that was not available to our District before is now available.  Through this opportunity, our District will be able to have our students take courses on-line through a virtual learning platform called Florida Virtual School (FLVS).  This program is more robust than the option available to us before and provides increased rigor and is more interactive, and it does align with Ohio’s learning standards.  It also offers different levels of courses including regular general education, honors courses, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  Additionally, with this new platform, courses beyond the traditional core-area classes would be available, such as fitness, art, and technology.  These would even be available in grades K-5.

As a result of this update, we are extending the selection period for Option 1 and Option 2 through Tuesday, August 4th.

If you would like to look into the Florida Virtual School option, a link for you to do that is as follows:
Florida Virtual School

Additionally, we will also post this on our website.

If you have already made a selection but now believe you would like to change that selection, you are able to do that, as well.  Please know you do not need to fill the form out again.  Rather, when you completed the form, you should have received a copy of your response by e-mail.  All you need to do is to return to the copy of your responses and choose to edit your response. This will help us avoid duplications.

Again, this was not an opportunity that was available before.  It has come available to us within the last week, and we want to be able to offer it to our students so that we can provide the best educational options we can.

Thank you!

Have a good evening!

Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Chad Eisler, Superintendent
