The OTES (Ohio Teacher Evaluation System) has been working at updating the district’s current evaluation tool into a more useable product. The committee of teachers and administrators have been meeting at least once a month. They have studied many different district models and have been studying the work of Danielson.
Currently they have been able to develop informal checklists that will be used in the evaluation process, they have also have been able to develop an evaluation tool that allows a teacher to Self Evaluate themselves and allow it to become incorporated into their actual evaluation. They have also broken down the areas of teaching into four domains and developed a rubric, which will place a teacher in one of the four categories:
Ineffective, Developing, Proficient, Accomplished
The committee also has begun working with the value added committee and will merge how a teacher’s evaluation is also incorporated on one of the state testing models.
