12/5/23 Threat Update

Dear MPLSD Parents and Guardians,

Good evening.  As you know, MPLSD was made aware today of threatening messages that were allegedly being made by a former student.  Law enforcement was immediately made aware, and multiple sheriff’s deputies responded.  Our buildings followed protocol and sheltered-in-place.  The law enforcement officials secured our campus and did a sweep for any signs of threats.  No signs of threats were found.   Once law enforcement officials had determined there were no signs of threats, our buildings resumed normal activity.  Law enforcement officials remained on campus to be a presence and monitor, and they began their investigation.

All of our students and staff are safe.

Through the Sheriff’s Department investigation, a person of interest has been identified, and that investigation is continuing this evening.

Based upon where the investigation stands, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office believes it is safe for us to have school tomorrow.  We will have extra law enforcement presence on campus tomorrow to help monitor our buildings.  I have asked our staff members to continue to remain attentive by keeping our eyes and ears open for anything that might be noteworthy for administrators and law enforcement to know.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can call the Sheriff’s Office at 740-852-1212.

The safety of our students and our staff is our top priority, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is working to support the District in that.

If there are any further updates that are significant in nature, I will work to communicate those.

Thank you.

Have a good evening.

Chad Eisler, Superintendent
